Springton Manor Activities and Clubs

Clubs and after school, extra curricular options are a great way for students to stay active and engaged in the learning environment, and to pursue interests outside of the classroom.

Band

Club Description: The elementary band program for grades 4 and 5 is designed to help students build a foundation of musical skills while playing a band instrument. Emphasis is placed on learning to read and understand written music notation including letter names, note types and rest values. Students participate in lessons and attend rehearsals before school.

Who is eligible: 4th and 5th grade students
Advisors: Mrs. Otto (5th Grade band, B Days) and Mr. Gordon (4th Grade band, A Days)

Chorus

Club Description: Students in grades 4 and 5 will begin to develop the vocal instrument and experience unison and part singing as a group. They will use a varied repertoire of music, to learn more about reading music and performing. No limit to participation. This ensemble rehearses before school on D Day mornings 7:45-8:30 AM.

Learning Extentions

Club Description: Students meet in small, grade-level groups for extra support in reading and math. Participation is by invitation only, but if you feel your child needs the extra support, please reach out to your child's teacher and/or our IST team. Students meet before and after school, depending on teacher's discretion.

Who is eligible: Grades 1-5, by invitation
Advisors: Ms. Heistand and Mrs. Knodel

SMBC (Broadcast Club)

Club Description: Students in SMBC are in charge of the morning announcements. All students are put into different crews, and receive a schedule where for one week at time, they prep and write the scripts, run the camera and Google Slides and go "on air" as anchors. Crews rotate throughout the year. All crews meet Friday before their on air week to prep scripts at 8:30 AM, and then are at school each day they are scheduled to be on air at 8:30 AM.

Orchestra

Club Description: Students learn to play a string instrument and develop their musical skills. Students in grades 4 and 5 play string instruments in the orchestra and perform in concerts. Students participate in lessons and attend rehearsals before school on E days. Third grade string students have 2 or 3 early morning rehearsals in May followed by a separate concert in late May or June.

Girls on the Run

Run Club

Club Description: Students meet before school on Tuesdays and Thursdays to run the path around the school. Their time and distance are tracked throughout the season, and the spirit of commraderie and positive competition is encouraged. This is a seasonal club, with a session during the fall season and another session during the spring season.

Who is eligible: Grades 1-5
Advisor: Mrs. Mercer

Math Olympiads

Reading Olympics

Club Description: Any student in grades 4 and 5 may join this club and they will be exposed to many pieces of quality literature. Students will then be selected to participate in the final competition team of 12 based on the number of books read and the familiarity of the content of those books. This club meets before school on F days.

Who is eligible: 4th and 5th grade students
Advisor: Ms. Thompson

Safety Patrol

Club Description: 5th grade students learn leadership skills and responsibility while helping with school activities and assisting our youngest learners. All students in grade 5 are invited to participate, however, only those students in good standing with academic work and represent good citizenship are eligible.

Yearbook Club

Student Council

Club Description: 5th Grade students who are interested campaign in the fall to their peers, and are elected anonymously through Google Form. The council supports various school events that are geared towards helping the school culture and our community. They meet once a month during their lunch period to discuss current concerns, suggest ideas for school events and occasionally meet with Home and School to have a voice for the student population.

Music - Mrs. Force

Music class is fun and educational for all students! Music has a significant positive impact on brain development in children, enhancing cognitive, emotional and social skills. Music engages multiple brain areas, strengthening neural pathways and improving memory, language skills, and motor coordination. It also fosters emotional intelligence, creativity, and self-expression.

In K, 1 and 2, students focus on experiencing music in a variety of ways - through instruments, movement, singing and listening. They also learn how to create their own music and develop their personal tastes and opinions.

In grades 3-5, students continue to expand their music knowledge and experience while also incorporating music theory such as note reading, rhythms and composition. 4th and 5th graders also learn the basics of ukulele playing and chord reading.

Welcome to Physical Education & Health! We are Mr. Greenberg & Mrs. Greco and we will be your tour guides for the year. We are looking forward to learning some new skills as well as practicing some old. Check the white board for the agenda each week as you enter the gym to see what's on the menu!

Our goals are always changing but here are a few that you can reach for each day when we are together:

Art - Mrs. Buckman

In Art at the elementary level, students explore the basics of visual arts through hands-on activities that build creativity, fine motor skills, and self-expression. They learn about the Elements of Art which include line, shape, color, texture, value, form and space while experimenting with different media such as paint, clay, drawing and sculpture materials, and paper. Lessons often incorporate art history, introducing famous artists and cultural traditions, and helping students develop an appreciation for diverse artistic styles. Through guided projects, students practice observation, problem-solving, and the joy of creating art in a supportive environment.
